Jim Newman is the Founder and Principal of CF Geographics LLC. After 34 years in the large corporate world, he retired in 2008 to continue his education and explore new horizons. Having spent his entire career in information technology, he decided to combine his technical, business, and project experience with his lifelong fascination with maps & geography.
Jim started his career in 1974 at American National Bank & Trust Company of Chicago, and continued on with its various parent companies and merger partners — First Chicago Corporation, FCNBD Corporation, Bank One Corporation, and JPMorgan Chase. During his tenure, he was responsible for several major banking applications, data center systems programming, information technology planning and budgeting, disaster recovery planning, information technology security, and database administration. He retired as Vice President in Treasury and Security Services at JPMC.
Jim has earned a BA in Finance from University of Illinois, an MS in Computer Science from Florida Institute of Technology, an MBA in Finance from University of Chicago, and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Analysis from Northern Illinois University. He is continuing graduate studies as a student-at-large at NIU, pending the Illinois Board of Higher Education’s approval of NIU’s application to offer a doctoral program in Geography. His specialties are spatial data analysis, mapping, and regional planning.
